Whitesboro, Sept. 24 - Funeral services for J. B. Viars, age 76, who died at his home on East Main street Thursday night at 11 0'clock, were held at the First Baptist Church, Saturday at 10 a.m.
The deceased was born in Sullivan County, Tenn., April 8th, 1852. He came to Texas with his parents in 1858 and they settled four miles southeast of here and he has lived in and around here since. For twenty-five years he represented the Harvester Company and was also an extensive land owner, but for the past 18 years he has been retired from Business.
In 1873 he joined the Baptist Church at Viars Chapel, a church building which was erected and named for his parents, and still in use, in a community south of here. The Rev. O. B. Hardy, assisted by A. E. Boyd, conducted the services. Mrs. C. L. Noland sang the Hymn, "The Old Rugged Cross", as a vocal solo. Interment was in the Oakwood cemetery. Pall bearers were C. D. Anderson, Byron Hill, Clifford Foster, Hall Nolan, A. Baker, C. L. Simpson.

Mr. Viars is survived by his four daughters and five grandchildren namely, Mrs. Fred Poffenbach, Sweetwater; Mrs. Jed Rix, Lubbock; Mrs. W. H. Quinn, Grand Saline; Miss Fay Viars, Whitesboro; and Marion and William Quinn, Miss Florence, Miss Katheryne Poffenbach, and Frederick Poffenbach. His daughters and their husbands, Jed Rix, Fred Poffenbach and W. H. Quinn and sons Marion and William, attended his bedside and funeral.
