WHITESBORO - A Memorial Service for Martha Jo Godwin Aldridge will be held at 1 P.M., Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Whitesboro, with the Rev. Steven B. Swann, Headmaster of the Episcopal School of Dallas, and Rev. Jack Wallace, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Whitesboro officiating. A private graveside service for family and close friends will precede the memorial service at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro. Services are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro.
Martha Jo was born December 23, 1919 in Whitesboro, the only child of J. Frank and Nona Turner Godwin. She graduated with honors from Whitesboro High School and continued her education at North Texas State Teachers College in Denton where she was active in both Scholastic and social organizations; Gammadion, Sigma Tau Delta, Junior and Senior Mary Arden Clubs, Kappa Theta Pi. She was a college favorite and President of Marques and Terrell Halls. Upon graduation she taught in the Saint Jo and Gainesville public schools. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Martha Jo married Lt. Frank M. Aldridge Jr. in 1941.
Survivors include two sons: Frank M. Aldridge III and James Godwin Aldridge and wife, Janene; seven grandchildren, Michelle Irby and husband, Bart, Whitney Jo Weindorf and husband, David, Greg Aldridge, Ashley Meece and husband, Mike, Turner Aldridge and wife, Patty, William Aldridge, and Wilson Aldridge; nine great-grandchildren, Barton, Trevor, Tyler, and Luke Irby, Brittney Aldridge, Walker and Camille Weindorf and Lila and McKinley Meece.
Martha Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Frank M. Aldridge Jr. in 1974.
Pallbearers are: Bob Esson, Steve Harris, Brad Bailey, David Bailey, Donny Ferguson, William Welch, Judd Bell and J.R. Roberts.
Honorary pallbearers are: Charles Baum and Hank LaMaster.
Memorial contributions may be made to the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Linda Harris - Treasurer, 1061 Anderson Rd., Whitesboro, TX 76273 or Children's Medical Center, 1935 Medical District Dr., Dallas, Texas 75235.
