Funeral services for L.J. "Jake" Turley, 90, will be held Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro, Texas.  Chaplin Cheri Wallace-Jackson officiating.  Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Whitesboro, Texas.  He passed away Friday, August 23, 2013, at his home in Whitesboro, Texas.
He was born on August 28, 1923 to John and Myrtle Turley in Wellington, Texas, Collinsworth County.  He was a long time resident of Amarillo, Texas and was owner/operator of a service station for many years.  He was well known for his keen sense of humor and pleasant smile and was loved by all who knew him.  Jake was a squad leader in combat infantry, U.S. Army and was recognized for meritorious achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the U.S. on Luzon, Philippine Islands in 1945.  His daring and courageous actions, dependability and intense devotion to duty, saved the lives of many of his fellow comrades.  He was a recipient of a Bronze Star.
He enjoyed watching old western movies and basketball.  Jake never had an enemy.  He loved his family dearly, and was well known for his sense of humor and always having a good joke to share with everyone.  He left a footprint for his sons to follow with his love of family and his great sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, Dawn Turley of Whitesboro; children, L.J. Turley, Jr. and wife, Anne, of Lakewood, California; Cherokee Brewer and wife, Sandra, of St. Jo, Texas; Sharoyn Bailey and husband, Lee, of Wichita Falls, Texas; and Shelby Fisher, of Whitesboro, Texas; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Roy Lee Turley and wife, Mary, of Lockney, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Myrtle Turley; three brothers, Howard, Sam and Earl Turley; and daughter, Beverly Star.


Funeral services for Dawn Oleta Turley, 85, of Whitesboro, Texas will be held Friday, March 18, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Meador Funeral Home chapel in Whitesboro, with Rev. Joe Patterson officiating.  Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.  She passed away Monday, March 14, 2016 in Nocona, Texas.  She was born April 28, 1930 in Amarillo, Texas to Samuel Eugene and Francis (Walters) Davis.  She married L.J. Turley on February 28, 1962 in Las Vegas, Nevada.  She was a member of Central Baptist Church and was a caregiver to all her family and friends.
She was an entrepreneur having owned a Dry Cleaner and Hilltop Cafe in Gainesville, Texas.  She owned and operated a service station for many years with her husband, L.J.  She never saw anything bad in anyone.  She was a kind, gentle woman whom everyone loved.  She loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed.
Pallbearers will be Cherokee Brewer, Jr., Saxton Ginther, Jay Clark, Jeffery Horner, Shaden Clark and Lee Bailey.
She is survived by her sons, Cherokee Brewer and wife, Sandra, of Saint Jo, Texas; and L.J. Turley, Jr. and wife, Anne, of Lakewood, California; daughters, Sharon Bailey and husband, Lee, of Wichita Falls, Texas; and Shelby Fisher of Whitesboro; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Sam Colgate of Floriday.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, L.J. Turley; daughter Beverly Star and sisters, Dena Davis and Doris Singletary.
