Pfc. George Meek of Honey Grove is Reported Killed
All flags on downtown building were flown at half-mast Wednesday for Pfc. George Meek, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.B.  Meek, here who died December 25, 1944 in the Luxembourg area.  His wife, the former Miss Deona Eudy of Ladonia, received word last week that he had been missing in action since that date.
Besides his mother here and his wife, employed at the telephone exchange at Ladonia, he leaves three sisters, Mrs. Nunnelly Hayes of Whitesboro, Miss Martha Lois Meek of Vernon and Miss Jo Ann Meek, student at Texas State College for Women in Denton, and one brother, Cpl Charles Meek, Camp Howze, Gainesville.
He was married in August 1944 and was sent overseas the following month in an infantry unit of the Third Army.



Amos B. Meek Died Saturday at Sherman Hospital

Amos Benjamin Meek died Saturday afternoon at 2:15 o'clock at Wilson N. Jones Hospital at Sherman, where he had been for a week under treatment for high blood pressure and complications.
Mr. Meek was a native of Louisville, Ky, being born there May 9, 1888, and was 57 years of age. He and his family moved to Honey Grove (Fannin Co., Tx) four years ago and hewas engaged in the blacksmithing business. He had just recently purchased a building on  South Sixth street to care for his increasing patrons.
He was married December 24, 1910, to Miss Vinnie Morrison, who survives with these children; Mrs. N. G. Hayes, Whitesboro; Martha Louis Meek, Vernon; Charles A. Meek, Honey Grove; Jo Ann Meek, student at TSCW, Denton, A son, PFC George Meek was killed in action on December 25, 1944 at Luxembourg. His mother Mrs. J. F. Meek; a brother, C. G. Meek; and a granddaughter, Nancy Gale Hayes, all of Whitesboro, also survive.
Funeral services were held at the Robertson Memorial Methodist Church, Whitesboro, of which deceased was a member, Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. T. J. Watts, assisted by Rev. A. T. Mays of Whitesboro. The body was given burial at Oakwood Cemetery at Whitesboro.
Dolph Martin and Wylie Cook of Gilliland attended the rites.
