Funeral services for Gene Foster, 85, were held Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Whitesboro with Dr. Jack Wallace and Brodie Black officiating.  Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.  Gene passed away Monday, July 7, 2008 at his home in Whitesboro.
He was born August 20, 1921 in Kaufman, son of William Horace Foster and Pearl Coker.  He earned his B.S. degree from Texas A&M University in 1943 and married Dorothy Louise Quinn June 1, 1946 in Terrell.  He earned his Master's degree from Texas A&M in 1950.  He served as President of the Rotary Club 1948-1949 and also served as President of the Chamber of Commerce.
Gene received his Paul Harris Fellowship the Rotary and was recognized as "Outstanding Citizen" in 1980.  He received the Distinguished Honorary American Farmer degree in 1960.  He served as a member of the Board of Directors of Grayson County College 1963-1965.  Gene was honored in 1988 by the Texoma Exposition and Livestock Show for many years of support and service and held a lifetime membership.  He served as Director of the Evening Division at Grayson County College for 14 years, retiring in 1979 after 37 years of service in education.  He also worked at the Security Bank in Whitesboro, retiring in 1989 as Bank Officer.  Gene was awarded the Community Building Award in December 2003.  In December 2004 the Vocational Center was named the Gene Foster Vocational Center at Whitesboro High School.  He was honored as a "faithful" teacher of 46 years from 1948 - 1994 by the Asbury Class of First United Methodist Church as well as given the "Award of Excellence" by the Whitesboro Masonic Lodge on June 8, 1993.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Tommy Gene Foster and wife, Betty, of Whitesboro and Mark Edward Foster of Austin; daughter, Karen Foster of Kyle; grandchildren: Brady Don Black of Kyle, Brodie Gene Black of Austin, Lucy Piper Foster of Austin, Wareen Adams Foster of Austin and Jessica Ruth House of Pottsboro; great-grandchildren: Dakota Meeks of Whitesboro, Kinsley Meeks of Whitesboro, Jaylyn House of Pottsboro, and Jaydyn House of Pottsboro; two sisters, Elsie Halbert of Kaufman and Dorothy Coulson of Mesquite.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, W.H. Foster, Jr., Ralph Foster, and M.E. Foster.
Pallbearers were Jack Boston, James Chisum, Wayne Chisum, Billy Don Smith,  Gene Paul Williams and Tom Clark.
Honorary pallbearers were J.B. Scarborough, Burl Scarborough, David Huneycutt, James Hightower, Carroll Hedges, Mickey Meals, and all former Whitesboro FFA members and Asbury Sunday School Class members.


Louise Foster, 92, of Whitesboro, passed away April 23, 2018 in her son's home in Austin.
Born February 19, 1926 to Thomas and Virgie Quinn in Terrell, Texas, Louise graduated from Terrell High School and later studied art at Grayson County College in Denison.  Louise married Gene Foster on June 1, 1946 in Kaufman, Texas.  Later that year, Gene accepted a teaching position and the couple made their home in Whitesboro where she lived until fall 2015.  The couple were active members of the First United Methodist Church in Whitesboro.  Louise was also a long-time member of the Whitesboro Modern Arts Club.
An accomplished artist, Louise was known for her Texas landscapes and floral still-life paintings.  She continued painting through her 70s.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sisters, Naomi O'Quinn and Margaret Akagi.  
Surviving are her children, Thomas Gene Foster of Whitesboro; Karen Foster Black of Austin; and Mark Foster of Austin; as well as five grandchildren, Brady Black of Grapevine; Brodie Black of Austin; Jessica House of Pottsboro; Warren Foster of San Marcos; and Lucy Kinney of Winhall, Vermont; and seven great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the choir at the First United Methodist Church at Whitesboro.
