Sherman - Funeral services for John Charles Skerkis were held Thursday morning, December 13, 2018 at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro.  Mike Bentley of the North Union Church of Christ officiated.  Pallbearers were Gene Bell, Jake Anderson, David Fults, Alan Bosma, Ray Sinor, and Maurice Coulter.  Honorary pallbearers were Bob Cathey and Greg Anderson.  Mr. Skerkis, 76, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Preston Place Assisted Living in Sherman.
John was born February 23, 1942 in New York, son of Charles and Louise Berard Skerkis.  He served in the US Air Force, including 2 tours in Vietnam.  John worked at Johnson & Johnson for 28 years, reitiring in 2003.  He enjoyed woodworking and will be remembered for his great sense of humor and the loving kindness that he showed his friends and family.
Mr. Skerkis is survived by 2 daughters, Colleen Brannan and husband, Alex, of Oneonta, New York; and Amy Elizabeth Peterson and husband, Garry, of California; 2 sons, Craig James Skerkis of Cary, North Carolina; and Jay Isbell and wife, Rebecca, of Briarcliff Manor, New York; step-daughter, Rhonda Martin and husband, Ed, of Van Alstyne; step-son, Kenny Davis of Gainesville' sister, Charlene Horbal and husband, Pete, of Cheshire, Massachusetts; daughter-in-law, Amy Chandler Skerkis of Cary, North Carolina; ex-wife, Della Skerkis; 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
