Whitesboro - Funeral services for Opal Thompson, 90, were held Sunday afternoon at the First United Methodist Church of Whitesboro with Ken Hildebrand officiating.  Interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro.  All service arrangements were under the direction of Meador Funeral Home of Whitesboro.
Opal was born  March 8, 1923, daughter of John Franklin and Susie Atlas Whatley Daulton in Atoka, Oklahoma.  She married Leroy Thompson on April 30, 1948 in Wardville, Oklahoma.  They were married 57 years until his passing.  Opal was proud to be a "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II, making C-47 airplanes.  She loved dancing and traveling.  She was a world-class fisherman, always ready to go fishing.  She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Whitesboro, and Women's Society (United Methodist Women), Ashbury Sunday School class.  She was an adventurous woman, trying her hand at snorkeling at the age of 87.

She died Thursday, September 5, 2013 in Denison.
She is survived by daughter, Janice McKee of Whitesboro; son, Eddie Thompson of Mannsville, Oklahoma; 4 grandchildren, Jake McGee; Clint Thompson and wife, Megan; Elizabeth Gore and husband, Jimmy; and Erin Dobbins and husband, Jeff; 5 great-grandchildren, Maddie Grace, Cole, Jett, Gavin and Opal; sisters, Ruth Moreland of Whitesboro and Sue Hayworth of Chico.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Albert Daulton and Johnny Daulton; sisters, Aunetia Daulton and Martha Cunningham; and great-grandson, Adam Dobbins.
Pallbearers were Rick Simmons, Art McGuire, Bud Smith, Kyle Maynard, Ken Kniss, and Jerry Johnson. - - - Meador Funeral Home
