Sadler - Graveside services for Alfred Wayne Nielson, 75, were held Saturday, July 18, 2009, at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro with Pastor Christy Thomas of First United Methodist Church of Krum officiating.  Services were under the direction of Meador Funeral Home of Whitesboro.
Alfred passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas.
He was born on March 14, 1934 in Springfield, Illinois to Alfred Milton Nielson and Lucy Elizabeth Merritt Nielson.  He served in the US Army and married Betty Clifton on July 5, 1953 in Peoria, Illinois.  Alfred retired from Keystone Steel & Wire Co. in Peoria, Illinois after 30 years of service.  His last place of employment was Oklahoma Steel & Wire in Madill, Oklahoma.  Albert also served as a wire consultant in the Dominican Republic.  He was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge, the Scottish Rite and the Mohammed Shrine Temple in Peoria, Illinois.
Alfred served on the board of directors for the Gordonville Water Department.  He was a wonderful husband and father who loved working on cars and hunting.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Bettie Nielson, of Sadler; a son, Greg Nielson of Carrollton; two daughters, Lisa Nielson of Krum and Kristie Smith and husband, Brian, of Sanger; two grandchildren, Claire and Carollyn; his mother, Lucy Nielson of Peoria, Illinois; a sister, Norma Bishop and companion, Kenny Kerker, of Peoria, Illinois; a brother, Jacob Nielson, and wife, Janne, of Sandy, Utah; nieces and nephews, Eric, Lance, April and Travis Nielson; and Bruce Clifton and wife, Stephanie, along with their three children.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to: The Shriners Hospital in Houston @www.shrinershq.org or to the American Cancer Society, @www.cancer.org.
