Funeral services for J. Ellis West, 79, were held Tuesday, March 5, at Huff Chapel in Whitesboro. He died Sunday, March 3, 1985, at Medical Plaza Hospital in Sherman.
Rev. Millard Fairchild of the First United Methodist Church of Whitesboro and Otis Proffitt, Church of Christ minister of Whitesboro, conducted the services.  Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Huff Funeral Home.
Mr. West was born February 16, 1906, in Whitesboro, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Newton Ellis West. He married Dorothy Evelyn Casey on November 19, 1930 in Marrietta, Oklahoma.
He was a farmer and a rancher and a member of the Westview Church where he had served as Sunday School Superintendent for several years. He was a former member of the Whitesboro School Board, Farmers Home Administration Committee of Cooke County, and Woodman of the World.
Survivors include: his wife, Dorothy West of Route 1, Whitesboro; three sons, Jim E. West of Gainesville; Joe West of Whitesboro; and Max West of Madill, Oklahoma; a daughter, Lou McCorkle, of Whitesboro; a brother, Bill West of Whitesboro; a sister, Aleta West of Whitesboro; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Jody West, Casey McCorkle, Ronnie Gregory, Carl Young, Grady Fails and David Colby.
