  Carl Murry Reed of Gunter, Texas was born January 29, 1935 in Falkner, Mississippi. He went home to be with our Lord on May 13, 2023, with his family around him. His parents were James Lytle and Rebecca Pearl Goolsby Reed of Falkner, Mississippi. Carl was one of 8 children, and he was the last living child of James Lytle and Pearl Reed. Carl moved to Texas at the age of 17 and married Dortha Louis Hedrick on July 2, 1958. When he first came to Texas, he worked at Wildwood Farms in Celina where he broke and trained horses. He worked as a welder at Taylor Tank with many other Gunter men who have since passed on. He was also employed with Gunter ISD for many years as a custodian and school bus driver. In his final working years, he cut and baled hay on many farms in this area. He loved animals and had goats and cows until the end. His favorite hobbies as a younger man were trail riding with his many friends and using his mules to move hay. In his later years, he loved to visit our Amish friends in Indiana and help them farm with their draft horse teams. He is survived by his wife; 3 children: Joe and Claudia Reed of Gunter, Texas; Jeff and Lesa Reed of Collinsville, Texas; and Ron and Jill Tolbert of Gunter, Texas; 6 grandchildren: Andrea Slawson of Lake Eufaula, Oklahoma; Drew and Andi Tolbert of Howe, Texas; Austin and Ashley Reed of Van Alstyne, Texas; Clint and Beth Reed of Van Alstyne, Texas; Jacob Reed of Gunter, Texas; and Anna Reed of Collinsville, Texas; 7 great-grandchildren: Bentley and Anistyn Slawson of McAlester, Oklahoma; Tatum and Jolee Tolbert of Howe, Texas; Finley and Leighton Reed of Van Alstyne, Texas; and Hazel Reed of Van Alstyne, Texas. Carl was preceded in death by his son, Jason Todd Reed. Services were held Saturday afternoon, May 20, 2023 at the Valley Church of Christ, Gunter, Texas with Alan Monk officiating. Burial followed at Whitaker Cemetery, Gunter, Texas. Pallbearers were Drew Tolbert, Austin Reed, Clint Reed, and Jacob Reed (grandsons), Shane Hedrick (nephew), and John Holcomb. Honorary pallbearers were Douglas Farrer (nephew) and James Pelley.
