Jennie Eatherly
1844 - 1928

The Whitewright Sun
Thursday, November 8, 1928
pg. 1

Mrs. Jennie Eatherly, aged 84, died suddenly of heart trouble last Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of Dr. and Mrs. R.L. Sears.  She came to Whitewright several days before her death for a visit with her sister, Mrs. Mollie Aston, mother of Mrs. Sears.
Mrs. Eatherly had been a resident of Grayson county since soon after the war between the states, and for a number of years resided near Howe.  For the past several years she had been making her home with relatives.
She was born in Missouri.  She was the eldest daughter of a large family.  Her mother died a short time before the war, and when the war started her father joined the Confederate Army, and while he was serving the Southland she kept the home fires burning.  She had many interesting war stories, and enjoyed telling them to her friends.  Her husband died 47 years ago while they resided on a farm near Howe.  She remained on the farm for a number of years following his death.  After her children married and moved off the farm, she divided her time between them and other relatives.
The funeral service was held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of Dr. and Mrs. R.L. Sears, following which interment was made at the City Cemetery.  The service was conducted by Rev. J.F. Fender, assisted by Rev. J.W. Willbanks.  A large number of out-of-town relatives and friends attended the funeral service.
Deceased is survived by two sons, J.C. Eatherly of Sherman and Hugh Eatherly of Big Spring; two brothers, Jim McCoy of Howe and Price McCoy of Bryson, and one sister, Mrs. Mollie Aston of Whitewright.
