Mrs. J.H. Davenport, aged 71, died Monday night in Dallas at the home of her son, C.J. Davenport.  She had been in poor health for several years and for the past few months was confined to her bed.  Mr. and Mrs. Davenport had been making their home with their son for the past year.
The deceased was born in Tennessee in 1861.  She came to Texas with her husband in 1894.  They first settled in Hill County.  About thirty years ago they moved to the Whitewright section and for several years resided on a farm south of town.  They moved to Whitewright some twenty years ago, and maintained their home until Mrs. Davenport's health failed.  Mrs. Davenport had been a member of the Church of Christ since girlhood.  She was a noble Christian woman, a good neighbor, a devoted wife and mother.
Lloyd Moore, local funeral director, was called to Dallas to take charge of the arrangements for the funeral.  The body was brought to Whitewright Tuesday afternoon and funeral services held at the Church of Christ at 3 o'clock with Rev. C.C. Merritt, pastor, in charge.  He was assisted by Rev. L.G. Hagard, pastor of the Methodist Church.  The burial service was held at the City Cemetery.
Mrs. Davenport is survived by her aged husband, J.H. Davenport; ono son, C.J. Davenport of Dallas; one daughter, Mrs. W.P. Wright, south of town, and several grandchildren.
