Ernest Smith 17 August 1895 - 3 January 1972   James Ernest Smith 17 August 1895 - 3 January 1972 Texas PFC US Army WWI The Whitewright Sun Thursday, January 13, 1972 pg. 6 Funeral for James Ernest Smith, 76, who died Monday in a Sherman hospital was held at 10:30 a.m. January 5, 1972, at the Earnheart Funeral Chapel with burial in the City Cemetery in Whitewright. He was born August 17, 1895 in Blue Ridge and married Clara Painter April 5, 1923 in Whitewright. He was a veteran of World War I, a Baptist. He had lived in Sherman in recent years. He was a ginner in Whitewright, later custodian at the Whitewright high school, and in 1954 joined the city water department where he retired in 1966, when he moved to Sherman. Survivors include his widow; one son, Garland of Sherman; one daughter, Mrs. Connie Stoplar of Sherman; one sister, Miss Willie Smith of Whitewright; four grandchildren.
