WHITEWRIGHT - Services for James Robert Shelley, 85-year-old Whitewright resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 at Mullican-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Bells/ Savoy. Mr. Shelley died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008 at the Mullican Nursing Center in Savoy.
The Rev. Houston Garner will officiate, followed by burial at Whitewright City Cemetery.
Mr. Shelley was born on July 10, 1923, in Ambrose, son of D.D. and Alice West Shelley. On Sept. 27, 1947 he married Peggy Joyce Blackerby in Bonham.
He was a mechanic for Meador Tractor Company in Whitewright for many years, and a maintainer operator for Grayson County Precinct II. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. He was a charter member of the Whitewright Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Hebron Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Douglas Lynn Thompson, David Dewayne Thompson, Brandon Lee Latimer, Jimmy D. Price, Cody Shelley, Michael Wayne Howard and Danny Snow.
Surviving are his wife, Peggy Joyce Shelley of Whitewright; sons, James Donald Shelley and wife, Donna of Whitewright and Ricky Wayne Shelley and wife, Debbie of Chickasha, Okla.; daughter, Retha Diane Thompson of Whitewright; brothers, Johnny Lynn Shelley of Ivanhoe and Joe Shelley of Hutchinson, Kan.; sisters, Wanda Jean Howery of Dodd City, Dorothy Alice Rigsby of Savoy, Barbara Tingle of Duncanville, Betty Shaw of Sherman, and Shirley Marie Webb of Tom Bean; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Billy Joe Shelley; brother, Preston Shelley; and sister, Mary Force.

Peggy Joyce Shelley, 78-year-old homemaker, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at her home in Whitewright.

Mrs. Shelley was born on June 16, 1931 in Randolph, the daughter of R.E. and Diola Davis Blackerby and attended Randolph schools.
She married James Robert Shelley on Sept. 27, 1947 in Bonham, TX.
Mrs. Shelley was a member of Hebron Baptist Church in Bells.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert Shelley; son, Billy Joe Shelley; and sister, Vonnie Nell Langley.
Surviving are her son, James Donald Shelley and wife Donna of Whitewright; son, Ricky Wayne Shelley and wife Debbie of Chickasha, Okla.; daughter, Retha Diane Thompson of Whitewright; brothers, Eugene Blackerby and Bobby Blackerby, both of Randolph; sisters, Cleva Jo Ferguson of Denison, and Sandra Lee Bailey of Alvarado; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 10 in the Mullican-Little Chapel in Bells/ Savoy with Rev. Houston Garner officiating.
Burial will follow at Whitewright City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Brandon Latimer, Douglas Thompson, David Thompson, Stephen Montgomery, Jimmy Price, Cody Shelley, Brian Kelsoe and Michael Howard.
