Clara M. Chandler, 80, of  Van Alstyne, Texas passed away on January 4, 2023, in Plano, Texas.
Clara was born in Red River County, near Clarksville, Texas on November 27th. 1942. She is preceded in death by her parents Vernon Earl and Ruby Inez McGregor, husband, Franklin D. Chandler and son Frankie Wayne Chandler. Clara is survived by her son, Shane Chandler and his wife, Jennifer of Van Alstyne, Texas.
By the early 1950s the family had moved to a farm near Van Alstyne Texas where they stayed, until they moved into the town of Van Alstyne by the mid-1950s. Clara graduated from Van Alstyne High School in 1960  and graduated from East Texas State in 1964 with a Master of Business Degree in Finance and a teaching certificate.
Clara worked at Allied Finance before taking a teachers position in Trenton, Texas. In 1966 Clara moved her teaching career to Princeton, Texas where she taught until mid-1978. In mid-1978, she moved to Van Alstyne ISD where she worked as a teacher. Clara went back to school to obtain a Masters of Library Science and was a Librarian at VAISD until her retirement in 2004. Clara remained at VAISD until 2010 as
a substitute teacher.
Clara was an active supporter of student activities, such as 4-H and FFA. She tutored many students (as well as her own children) who had reading issues, such as dyslexia, so they could maintain a GPA high enough to participate in sports and other extra-curricular activities.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was a Past Matron, of the Order of Eastern Star, Leah Elliott Chapter 1119, where she was an active member for 40 plus years.
Clara enjoyed reading, sewing, and socializing with her family and many friends.
Clara passed away from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at the Van Alstyne Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 10, 2023 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Scoggins Funeral Home Chapel.
