'Bill' Barrett Jr.

Van Alstyne - W.R. 'Bill' Barrett Jr., of Van Alstyne, 75-year old retired supermarket owner and operator, died Wednesday at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman.  Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Elmont Baptist Church.
The Rev. Joe Griffin and the Rev. Jim Poole will officiate, with burial in Van Alstyne Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Flesher Funeral Home.
Mr. Barrett was born in Sedalia, the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.R.Barrett Sr., and married Jewell Holman on July 4, 1934 in Corinth, Miss.
He had owned and operated Barrett Supermarkets for 51 years, and was a former president of the board of directors of Affiliated Food Stores.  He had served on the board of directors for Flesher Funeral Insurance since 1953, and had also served as a director of the First National Bank of Van Alstyne.
Since 1948, he had been a member of the Elmont Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.  He was also a member of Mantua Masonic Lodge No. 208 in Van Alstyne.
Surviving are his wife; daughters, Dyann Watson of Gunter and Denise Anderson of Van Alstyne; sons, Joe David Barrett of Gunter and Dudley Barrett of Van Alstyne; sister, Cena Griffin of Westminster; brother, Charlie Barrett of Gunter; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be deacons of the Elmont Baptist Church.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today, and other times at 501 Rigsby Drive in Van Alstyne.
