Pottsboro - Justice of the Peace Bob Umphress, 71-year-old Pottsboro resident died Monday February 9, 1998, at his home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 12, 1998, in Lakeway United Methodist Church.  Officiating will be the Rev. Julie Halstead and the Rev. Virgie Holbrook.  Burial will be in Van Alstyne Cemetery.  Johnson-Moore Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Mr. Umphress was born on June 16, 1926, in Van Alstyne, Texas, the son of Thomas Jefferson and Effie Kate Philips Umphress.  He attended Van Alstyne schools.  He married Betty Testerman on July 11, 1948, in Dallas, Texas.
Mr. Umphress served the Pottsboro area for over 13 years as Justice of the Peace Precinct #8.  He was a member of Lakeway United Methodist church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Elks, and Noon Lions Club in Pottsboro.  He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.
Pallbearers will be Joe Bodine, James Harris, Brad Ward, Ralph Lafollett, Horace Groff, Roy Scoggins and Gene Short.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Umphress of Pottsboro; sons, John Umphress of Garland, Texas and Ron Umphress of Pottsboro; daughter, Linda Simpson of Mesquite, Texas; brother, Jesse Joe Umphress of Glen Rose, Texas; and granddaughters, Misti Ortiz of Mesquite, Texas and Shannon Umphress of Cabot, Arkansas.
The family suggests memorials to Lakeway United Methodist Church Building Fund.
Judge Umphress' body will be at Johnson-Moore Funeral Chapel in Denison.
