Patricia Arlene Barton
July 26, 1943-July 8, 2023
With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of Patricia Arlene Barton, loved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and most importantly, Nana. She died suddenly and unexpectedly of a heart attack on Saturday, July 8, in Dallas, TX, at UT Southwestern Emergency Department, shy of her 80th birthday celebration.
Patricia was born July 26, 1943, in Van Alstyne, TX, to Verna Mae and Hollie Carney. She was the oldest of six children. She graduated from Van Alstyne High School in 1961 and was known for her intelligence and ability to grasp concepts. She began working at Grayson-Collin Electric Co-op after high school and worked there for 30 years as the business office manager. She led the migration from paper billing to computerized billing statements, among other notable accomplishments. She worked diligently for the co-op, then Patricia undertook the difficult task of becoming Microsoft Certified. She used that certification to become a help-desk lead at Club Corp, International, where she served for several years. Patricia completed her working career at Collin College in the Bursar’s office. She was very technology savvy and had all the latest gadgets. She enjoyed learning and engaging with co-workers and college students in her work life.
Patricia loved traveling and took several excursions to Europe with her children and grandchildren; she enjoyed Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, on several occasions and was able to travel this past February to Disney World with her granddaughters and two of her girls. Over her life, she had many wonderful camping trips and time at Lake Texoma.
Her greatest joy was with her family. As a wife and mother, she was loving and giving, fun and witty, and on the cutting edge of all music, movies, celebrities, and favorite television binging. As a grandmother, she is beloved beyond measure by her four grandchildren.
Patricia is survived by her husband Andy, her daughters Wendy Smith and partner Karen Meade, Stephanie Prine, and husband Scott Prine and Andrea Barton. Four grandchildren, Cody Smith, Avery Prine, Kelsey Prine, and Emily Prine. Sisters Linda Foley, Carol Kennedy (Eddie), Pam Walker (Ronnie), and brother Robert Carney (Cathy). Sister-in-law Martha Dubberly, as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Verna Mae and Hollie Carney and brother Billy Carney.
Though our hearts ache with grief, we find comfort in knowing that she did not suffer and is now free from health issues and can frolic in heaven with her beloved parents and friends. We find solace in the impact she had on our lives. Her love and joy will continue to guide us to be curious, be a continuous learner, interested in others, laugh, cherish family, and enjoy life.
We invite you to honor her memory at the memorial service, held on Thursday, July 13th, at Scoggins Funeral Home. Visitation begins at noon, with the memorial service starting at 1 pm. After the service, please join us for a reception at the Van Alstyne Senior Center.
The family appreciates all of the outreach and kindness of our community of family and friends.
