Bubba Stephens, after a lengthy illness, entered the presence of the Lord on October 5,
2021. On February 11, 1942, Bubba was born at the home of his grandmother, Hettie Simmons,
in Cannon, Texas. He was the youngest son of Elmer Glee Stephens and Jewell nee Simmons.
Bubba grew up in the Cannon community and at a young age worked at the Cannon Grocery Store
owned by Speck Anderson, a dear friend to the Stephen family. In the early 1960s, Bubba went
to work in Dallas. It was at this time he met the love of his life, Mary Dean Womack. He and
Mary Dean were married on April 20, 1963 and were happily married for 58 years. They were the
parents of daughters, Kanita Jean and Belita Lynn. Their son, Kenneth Nathan, joined the family
in 1977.
Over the years, Bubba was a mechanic, truck driver, and security guard. He also raised
cattle. He loved to tease and kid with everyone and his laughter is what his family and friends are
going to miss the most.
He is survived by his loving wife and caregiver, Mary Dean, son, Nathan, daughter, Belita
and her companion Chuck Gillespie, daughter Kanita and her husband, David Bruce. He was
Pawpaw to Kami Tillotson and her husband Troy, Cole Young, Tami Davidson, Harlee Enox and
Trey Davidson. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Mindy, Gage, Nina, Eli, and Lanie,
his sister, Janice Toland, and many extended family and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, L.D. and Estell “Brother,” and sister,
Mary Francis Massey. A graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, October 9th at 11:00 a.m.
with Reverend Bobbie Hash officiating.
