Mary Lou Ransom Handley entered the kingdom of heaven on Thursday, January 17, 2019.
She as a resident of Van Alstyne  She was born October 23, 1932 in Walla Walla, Washington,
daughter of Kenneth and Geneva Ransom.  She was the second of 4 children.
Mary met and married Robert Lee Handley shortly after he returned from service in World War II. 
During their early years of marriage, they purchased and operated a
Dude Ranch in the mountains of Idaho.  This was probably some of their happiest times.
The next chapter of their lived settled them in the Rio Grand Valley of Texas where they spent the next 40 years.
In 1968 Mary returned to college in pursuit of a degree in education.  Thereafter, she spent most of the following 30 years teaching mostly in the Harlingen ISD. She loved her students so much.  Se was always given the so called 'problem children", yet by the end of the school year, they tested out on top every year, without fail, mostly due to her love for, belief in, and devotion to them.  While teaching she obtained her Master's degree, graduating in 1980.  She also taught Sunday School classes for many years and served as scout leader. 
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Robert Ransom Handley; father, Kenneth Ransom; mother, Geneva; brother, Creig Ransom sister, June Ransom Krig; sister, Susan K. Cheney; mother-in-law, Hysa Belford Alton; grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles.
Survivors include daughters, Mary Lee Handley and husband, Ron; Patience Traughber and husband, Zan; and Margo Handley Harding and husband, Dale; sisters, Ellen Lees, Virginia Casbeer and husband, J.T.; Lahoma Horn and Georgia Ashworth; and brother-in-law, Harrison and wife, Janis; grandchildren, Heidi Cecil; Bryan McCollum, Shane Handley Garton; Joshua C. Garton and wife, Stephanie; Travis C. Garton and wife, Jackie; Heather Luckey and husband, Jeffery; Hillary H. Bailey and husband, Justin; Holly R. Handley; Marshall Handley Harding and wife, Kayli; Nicholas G. Harding; 24 great-grandchildren;
and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service was held Tuesday afternoon, January 22, 2019 at Scoggins Funeral Home.  Burial followed in Van Alstyne Cemetery. - - - Scoggins Funeral Home
