It is with much grief that the family of Rev. Stephen Verdell Pitts born May 26, 1959, announces his passing after his battle with cancer, Monday November 13, 2017 at the age of 58 years old. He is remembered in love by his wife of 40 years, Linda his four children; daughter Michelle & Joshua Baldwin, daughter Sharon & Brian Williamson, son Jonathan and daughter Krystal. He was also called Pops by grandchildren, Danielle, Abigail, and soon Marklin Dale, his sisters Belinda & Larry, Benita and Wesley, Beverly and Doyle, sister in law Glenda & Alton. Stephen was proceeded in death by his father, John Verdell, mother Owena Faye, Father in law Grover Taylor and mother in law Mary Taylor.
Stephen was a licensed minister of the United Pentecostal Church International for 39 years. He was a loving husband, father, and friend who never met a stranger. His greatest desire was to lead and love as many souls as God brought him into contact with. He was an avid outdoors man who was always up for a round of golf or his next shot at Billy the Deer. Stephen was also an accomplished musician and singer with the ability to play 9 different instruments and could usually be found singing a tune of some sort. He lived his to the fullest, always striving for the words written in Matthew 25:21 “Well done thou good and faithful servant.”
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 17 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne, Texas.
Funeral services for Rev. Stephen Verdell Pitts will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Truth Church in Denison, Texas. Burial will follow at the Van Alstyne Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Baldwin, Brian Williamson, Trey McCasland, Adrian Jones, David Paul Neblett, Corey Simpson, Dustin Watson, Jeremy Jacobs. Honorary pallbearers will be Jared Thornhill, Kelton Pitts
and Braden Pitt.
