ARNSPIGER RITES ARE HELD HERE

Services were held here last Thursday afternoon, 3 o'clock, for Grady Arnspiger, 77-year-old Van Alstyne
area native and a member of a prominent pioneer homesteading family.

Mr. Arnspiger died Tuesday Nov. 23, 1976, in a Sherman hospital.
Officiating at the services was the Rev. Don Griffith, pastor of the First Christian Church and the Rev. Jerry Scott, pastor of the First Baptist church here.  Burial was in Van Alstyne cemetery under direction of Flesher Funeral Home.
Mr. Arnspiger was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Powers Arnspiger.  He was born on a farm about two and
a half miles southwest of Van Alstyne, the place homesteaded more than 125 years ago by his grandfather, David Arnspiger.

He was married Nov. 11, 1916, in Van Alstyne to Nellie Harkins, who survives him.
Mr. and Mrs. Arnspiger had been honored with a 60th pre-anniversary Nov. 7 by their daughters, Mrs. B.N. (Lois) Allen of San Antonio and Mrs. Helen Henderson of Dallas.
Mr. Arnspiger spent some 10 years farming and ranching before moving into Van Alstyne many years ago to become associated with grocery firms.  He entered the grocery business for himself in 1943 in the building now occupied by Flowers by Clowers, engaging in the business until he sold it in 1961.
He and Mrs. Arnspiger have long been active in Van Alstyne's civic, social and church life.  He was a member of the First Christian church here and was active in the church's Men's class, from which active pallbearers at his services came.
They were Robert Hynds, Floyd Carter, Cecil Thornton, Zack Herring, A.V. Whitehead, and Sylvester Williams.
In addition to Mrs. Arnspiger; the two daughters, Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Henderson, he is survived by one brother, Bill Arnspiger of Van Alstyne, and two sisters, Mrs. Henry Gandy of Van Alstyne and Mrs. Alma Parks of Dallas.
Three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
