Van Alstyne Texas - Kathryn Massie Carter, 99, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2016 at her residence. She was born October 4, 1916 in Van Alstyne, Texas to Clyde Massie and Charlie Koch Massie. She married Floyd Madison Carter October 4, 1937 in Sherman, Texas.
She is survived by her daughter, Faye Buckner; grandchildren, Curtis Buckner, Justin Bucker, Rebecca Bucker Williams; six great-grandchildren, Natalie, Henley, Jacob, Carson, Ben, and Caden and daughter-in-law Marie St. Hilaire, and son-in-law Mike Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Madison Carter; son, Floyd "Puddy" Carter; parents, Clyde and Charlie Koch Massie; sisters, Lucille Krehbiel, Mary Goss, and Margaret Chrisman.
She graduated from Van Alstyne High School in 1934. She was a long time member of the First Christian Church in Van Alstyne. In 1955 she was the first woman to serve on a Grayson County grand jury. She had a love of gardening and was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church of Van Alstyne and Grayson County Hospice.
There will be a graveside service in her honor at 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Van Alstyne cemetery with Pete Robinson officiating. There will be no formal visitation.
Funeral services are under the direction of Scoggins Funeral Home and Crematory in Van Alstyne.
