Murder Charge Filed
Against Ollie O'Neal

Ollie O'Neal, farmer, living near Howe, is charged with murder in a complaint filed in Justice of the peace W. M. Blalock's court Thursday afternoon by Deputy Sheriff L. B. Shipp.
The charge is made in connection with the death Thursday morning of Taylor Adkins, alleged to have been fatally hurt when struck by O'Neal with a piece of timber during an altercation which took place last Saturday at Howe.
No date has as yet been set for an examining trial for O'Neal.

Samuel hit in the head during a confrontation with a with a 2x4 in Sherman; he was later taken to St. Vincents Hospital in Sherman where he later died of a fractured skull.

I started contacting still living older Atkins who might have knew something.  I found a daughter of one
of Sam's older brothers on Facebook. She recalled visiting Van Alstyne Cemetery as a kid with her mother.  She told me he might be by his brother, James Bedford Atkins, who died of Tuberculosis in 1926. L and behold he was - one grave over from his brother. I also went by a crazy theory: Sam's brother, George, made a lot of homemade concrete stones for the family. He made one for his father,
one for his daughter, Rose E. and one for Sam. I knew Sam had to have some kind of something. I also dowsed his grave and got the reading of "male". The writing on Sam's stone is hard to read but it's him.
It paid off in the end.
