102-Year-Old Mrs. Bird Amonett is Laid to Rest

Funeral services for Mrs. Bird Amonett were held Saturday afternoon at 2 in the First Christian Church, conducted by Rev. Jesse Pugh of Denison, Rev. Don Davis and Rev. Ken Britt of Carrollton.  Pallbearers were her grandson, Frank Ayers, Till Hunnicutt, Ben Amonett, Jerry McNeil, Billy Bob Amonett and Jack Joseph Ireland.  Interment was in the Van Alstyne cemetery under the direction of Flesher Funeral Home.  Mrs. Amonett was 102 years of age, the second oldest resident of Grayson County at the time of her death at her home here last Thursday evening at 9 o'clock.
Mrs. Amonett was born on Feb. 11, 1861, in Tennessee, a daughter of the late George and Katie Stone Cole.  She had lived here the past 74 years, making her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Arrington.  She had been a member of the Christian Church for 75 years.  Her husband, P.M. Amonett, preceded her in death in 1937.
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. J.R. Ross of San Antonio, Mrs. Katie Ayers of Sherman, Mrs. Annie Joe McNeill of Dallas and Mrs. Arrington of Van Alstyne; by three sons, Jack Amonett of Van Alstyne, Johnny Bob Amonett of Dallas and Geo. W. Amonett of Houston; by 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
