Allen, Texas – Dovie Harris formerly of Van Alstyne,  passed away peacefully the morning of January 3, 2016.  She was 102 and had suffered from dementia for several years.  Dovie was married to Cleo Harris of Van Alstyne from September 12, 1931 till his passing January 30, 1970.  Together they raised three children, Jerry Cleo, Barbara Jean, and Richard “Rick” Lee.

She was born August 28, 1913 in Salado, Texas, one of 11 children of John Williams and Nettie Phipps Williams.  Dovie was preceded in death by her husband, Cleo and her siblings:  J.B., James, John, Sylvester, Verdie, Elmer, Lena, Estelle, and Imogene.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Allen and also attended the First Baptist Church of Carrollton.  

She leaves her family whom she dearly loved and was so proud of.  Her greatest gift was her beautiful legacy of love, which will be cherished by her family forever and she will live on through their numerous memories. 

Her family includes three children, seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one great- great grandchild, and one brother.  She was survived by her family;  Jerry Harris and wife Carolyn of Carrollton, Tx and their children:  Joel Harris of Dallas; Jeff Harris, and wife Dianne of McKinney, Tx and their children: Amanda and Justin;  Evon Harris, and husband Michael of Grapevine, Tx and their children: Haley and son Cole, Travis, and Madison; Michelle Harris Reising, and husband Eric of Lewisville, Tx and their children: Morgan and Brandon; Barbara Harris Ganakos and her husband, Chuck of Allen, Tx and their son: Parrish, and his wife Kathy of Allen, Tx and their children: Garrett and Kenzie; Richard Harris and wife Lora of Allen, Tx and their children: Courtney and Clint; her brother, Oscar Williams of Van Alstyne; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 8, 2016 at Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne, Texas.  Officiating will be her former pastor, James Craver.  Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 p.m., immediately prior to the service at Scoggins Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Van Alstyne Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank McKinney Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center for their compassion and care for Dovie during the past four and a half years.  Also, our heartfelt gratitude to Harris Hospice staff for the loving care she received during her final days.

Funeral services are under the direction of Scoggins Funeral Home and Crematory.
