30 April 1925

The sudden death of R.P. Jackson at his home in Van Alstyne was heard of by friends all over this community and at Pottsboro where Mr. Jackson formerly lived, with sincere regret.  Mr. Jackson had moved to Van Alstyne about three weeks ago, but was known to many of our citizens.  He was born on March 16, 1856, in Chattanooga county, GA., and was 69 years, 1 month and 9 days old at the time of his death.
Early in life, Mr. Jackson professed religion and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church, of which body he was at all times a consistent member, most faithful in the discharge of all of his obligations and duties.  He expressed a willingness to be translated into the spirit world and stated that he was ready to go.  His life was quiet, peaceable and full of good deeds, and he was loved by all who knew him.  To his church, to his family and to his friends he was all that could be desired in the husband, the father, the Christian, and the neighbor.
In 1875, Mr. Jackson was married to Miss Mary Isham by whom he is survived, together with two sons, Andrew Jackson of the Farmington community and James Jackson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  A daughter, Mrs. Olive Smith, is dead.
Funeral services were held from the late residence of Mr. Jackson on Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. C.B. Fielder, pastor of the Methodist church.  Many who had known and esteemed Mr. Jackson in life were present to pay the last tribute of respect and to accompany his remains to their last resting place.  The impressiveness of the service was felt by all who were present and the relatives and members of his family had the sorrow which they felt in their bereavement shared with them by the friends who were present.  Interment was had at the local cemetery.
