Van Alstyne, Texas -- Jean Ann Blakely, 76, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Meadowbrook Care Center in Van Alstyne, Texas. Jean Ann was born on August 5, 1938 in Van Alstyne to Eugene Blakely and Mozelle Hammonds Blakely.  She was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church where she kept the nursery for many years.  She never drove, but she walked to town daily to the Post Office and to visit with the local merchants. 

Ann is survived by three sisters, Jane Evans; Janette Chapman and husband, John; Nancy Ritchie and husband, Aubrey, all of Van Alstyne; 9 nieces and nephews, 17 great nieces and nephews, and 8 great, great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, one niece, and a host of family and friends.

Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 29, 2014 at Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne, immediately followed by a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. at the Van Alstyne Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church Nursery. Services are under the direction of Scoggins Funeral Home, 637 W.
