Fatal To Van Alstyne Woman, Buried Sunday

Mrs. Fannie Welch, 85, died Friday morning in a Sherman hospital from shock suffered when she fell
and broke her hip recently on the street in downtown Van Alstyne. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Van Alstyne Baptist Church with the Rev. J.G. Miller pastor assisted by the Rev. W.H. Vail, pastor of the Methodist Church. Interment was in the Van Alstyne Cemetery under direction of Fox-Fanning.

Mrs. Welch was born August 19, 1860 at Cennaca, S.C., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hicks. She was married in 1878 to Willie Brown, a Confederate war veteran. The couple had two children, and in 1892
she remarried to L.Z. Welch of Athens, Ga., who died in 1928. Mrs. Welch came to Texas settling in Van Alstyne 42 years ago. She was an active member of the Baptist Church until the time of her death.

Survivors are: five daughters, Mrs. Mamie Higginbotham of Roys City, Ga., Mrs. H .F. Starnes of McKinney, Mrs. Jim Mooneyham, Mrs. Jim Null and Mrs. Gretchen Walker of Van Alstyne; two sons,
A. W. Welch of McKinney and H._. Welch of Gainesville; one sister, Mrs. Ella Massengill of Homer, Ga.;
7 grandchildren including five in the service and 10 great-grandchildren.




L. Z. WELCH IS CALLED BY DEATH

L. Z. Welch, 71 years old, died on Thursday morning of last week at his home here.  Funeral services were held Friday morning at 10 o'clock at the First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. C.O. Hitt, pastor, assisted by the Rev. A. A. Kidd, pastor of the First Methodist Church, and the Rev. E.M. Atherton of Sherman.  Burial was at the Van Alstyne cemetery in charge of the Van Alstyne Lodge, I.O.O.F.
Active pall bearers were G. V. Bray, J. G. Kitching, G. C. Strickland, Sam Pattie, G. T. McDonough and
J. T. Sheridan.

Mr. Welch was a Georgian by birth, having been born March 19, 1856 in Henry county.  He came to Texas in 1903, and had since lived in Van Alstyne and vicinity.
The deceased suffered a stroke of paralysis two years ago, from which he never fully recovered.  Pneumonia, however, aided by his debilitated condition, was responsible for his death.
Mr. Welch had been a member of the Baptist Church since he was 18, and an Odd Fellow for 35 years.
He was a loyal citizen, a devout Christian and a dutiful husband and father.

He is survived by a wife, and the following children: Mrs. Ji Monneyham and Mrs. Jim Null of Van Alstyne; Allen Welch of Howe; Mrs. Dewey Walker of Tom Bean; Herbart Welch of Corsicana; Mrs. Felix Starnes of Gunter; Mrs. L. R. Paterson of Cornelice, Ga., and Mrs. O. C. Bruce of Kelsey City, Ga.
