VAN ALSTYNE - Services for Harold Woodrow Veazey, 82-year-old Van Alstyne resident, will be held at
2 p.m. Thursday in Flesher Funeral Chapel in Van Alstyne. He died Tuesday at Elm Brooks Nursing Home in Ardmore, Okla.

The Rev. John Bain of the First Christian Church in Van Alstyne will officiate. Burial will be in Van Alstyne Cemetery.
Mr. Veazey was born in Van Alstyne, the son of James Veazey and Malta Blassingame Veazey. He graduated from Van Alstyne High School and received both bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees from Austin College.
He also attended the University of North Texas in Denton, University of Colorado and University of Texas in Austin.
During World War II, he worked for the government at Oak Ridge, Tenn. He and his father owned and operated Veazey Lumber Company in Van Alstyne for many years. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Van Alstyne.
Surviving are a niece and nephew.

James Veazey Last Rites Held Friday Morning

Funeral services for James Veazey were held in the First Baptist Church last Friday morning at ten o'clock, conducted by Rev. E.G. Gregory, assisted by Rev. Ken Britt of the First Christian Church.  Active pallbearers were Robert Veazey, Morris Bounds, Marcus Braddish, Robert H. Hynds, Joe Eatherly and Hansel Douglas.  Interment was in the Van Alstyne City Cemetery, under the direction of the Flesher Funeral Home.  In the funeral service, Rev. Gregory paid tribute to Mr. Veazey's sterling character, his loyalty to his friends, his devotion to his wife and children, and that he left as his great heritage four fine sons.
Mr. Veazey had been in declining health for a number of years.  About a month ago he was taken to a hospital in Ardmore, where his two physician sons might give him every attention.  He died suddenly without pain last Tuesday morning at four o'clock.
Mr. Veazey was born in Van Alstyne Nov 22, 1876, a son of the late Lyman C. and Sallie Mae Gregory Veazey.  He was united in marriage in Van Alstyne with Miss Malta Blassingame in 1899.  She preceded him in death on Jan. 29, 1955.  He was a retired farmer and lumberman.  He was a member of the Baptist Church for over half a century.
He is survived by four sons, Dr. J. Hobson Veazey and Dr. Lyman C. Veazey of Ardmore; J. Rudolph Veazey of Lubbock and Harold W. Veazey of Van Alstyne; and by one brother, Lee Veazey of Van Alstyne.
