INQUEST HELD IN DEATH OF G.M. SWEENEY
Van Alstyne - A coroner's inquest into the death of George M. Sweeney, 61, retired farmer found dead
in his home Monday with a pistol at his side, was being conducted today by Justice of the Peace C.E. Brown.

Mr. Sweeney, who had been ill for three weeks, was found in the kitchen of his home by his wife at noon Monday.  He had been shot in the head.  The .38 caliber pistol lay at his side.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Van Alstyne Christian Church, with the Rev. J.G. Miller, pastor of the local Baptist Church, officiating, assisted by the Rev. J.M. Simpson, pastor of the Methodist Church here.  Burial will be in Van Alstyne Cemetery, directed by Fox-Fanning Funeral Home.
Mr. Sweeney was born April 12, 1884, in Liberty county, Ky.  He came to Texas at the age of 12 and was married to Miss Haney Harkins Oct. 17, 1908, at Van Alstyne.  He was a member of the Christian Church here.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Mrs. Randolph Hall of Van Alstyne; a son, Weldon Sweeney of Paris; three brothers, John Sweeney of Dallas, Charley Sweeney of Oklahoma and D.V. Sweeney of Durant; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. George M. Sweeney
Services for Mrs. George M. (Haney) Sweeney, 85, who died Tuesday at a Sherman hospital, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Flesher Funeral Chapel, conducted by Rev. Don Griffith and Rev. Jerry Scott.  Burial will be at Van Alstyne cemetery.
Mrs. Sweeney was born June 22, 1888, in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana.  She married George M. Sweeney on October 17, 1909.  Mr. Sweeney preceded her in death in 1946.
Surviving are one son, Weldon Sweeney of Paris; one daughter, Mrs. Randolph Hall of Sherman; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Grady Arnspiger of Van Alstyne, and Mrs. Don Chapman of Miami, Fla., and one brother, Arthur Hardin of Anna.
