Van Alstyne - Bob Yeury Strickland, 85-year-old Van Alstyne resident, died Thursday, August 28, 2008 at Hilltop Haven in Gunter, Texas.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 30 at Flesher Funeral Home Chapel in Van Alstyne with Bro. Jimmy Tarrant officiating.  Burial will follow at Van Alstyne Cemetery.
Mr. Strickland was born on May 10, 1923 in Van Alstyne, Texas, son of Giley Strickland and Leah Yeury Strickland and married Mary Ruth Harris.
Pallbearers will be C.L. Simco, Dude Crook, Bill Gore, Bill Godwin, Burl Davis and Charles Cate.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ruth Strickland of Van Alstyne; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
There will be no formal visitation.  The family will be at Mary's residence in Van Alstyne.


Mary Ruth Strickland, was born February 3, 1925 in Anna, Texas she married Robert Yeury Strickland, on August 2, 1947, until his death on August 28, 2008.
Mary, Worked for Ray Nunley Hardware Store in Van Alstyne after high school and at First National Bank (now Texas Star) for 41 years.
She is survived by a sister, Virginia McNeese and her husband, Charles McNeese of Richardson, Texas; and a brother, Lindy Harris and his wife, Pauline Harris of Denton, Texas; and many nieces and nephews who dearly loved her. Preceding her in death were her parents, Lee and Ella Harris of Van Alstyne; seven brothers and four sisters-in-law: Cleo & Dovie Harris of Dallas/Allen, Garfield Harris of Van Alstyne, Bailey and Vera Harris of Van Alstyne, Troy and Margaret Harris of Dallas, Louie and Pauline Harris of Sherman, Rube Harris of Hurst, and Talbert Harris of Van Alstyne.
She was secretary of First Baptist Church of Van Alstyne, for many years and a member of the choir. She was the consummate organizer, volunteer, and friend to all.
She resided in Van Alstyne, her entire life until 2014 when she moved to Denton to be closer to family to care for her.
No flowers, please, but donations to the Van Alstyne Cemetery or the First Baptist Church of Van Alstyne, would be appreciated. She donated to both of them for many years, and they were near and dear to her heart.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Scoggins Funeral Home Chapel, located at 637 W. Van Alstyne, Pkwy. Van Alstyne, TX; 75495. 903-482-5225. the family will receive friends one hour prior of services. Burial will follow at the Van Alstyne Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Scoggins Funeral Home & Crematory.
