RITES HELD FOR JAMES SMITH
Services for James Grady Smith, 74, a retired Howe farmer who died Monday at a Sherman hospital, were held Thursday at Flesher Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Scott, the Rev.
Charles Morris and the Rev. Johnny Johnson.  Burial was at Van Alstyne Cemetery.

Mr. Smith was born in Alabama, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Smith. He married Hattie Adams,
July 17, 1921 in Van Alstyne.  She died Jan. 28, 1976. He was a member of the First Baptist Church here.

Surviving are his daughters: Mrs. Sandra Burks, Mrs. June Davis and Mrs. Jennie Drake, all of Howe;
Mrs. Betty Hearn of Jackson, Texas; Mrs. Frances Morris of  Chehalis, Wash., Mrs. Sue Thompson of Grovesville, Calif., and Mrs. Gradylene McKnight of Irving; sons, Horace and Bob Smith, both of Howe, James Smith of Whitewright and Stanley Smith of Melissa; brothers, Taylor Smith of California and Joseph Smith of Euless; sister, Mrs. Ollie Bean of Pottsboro; 27 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were his nephews.
