J. T. Sheridan Dies Friday

Native of Georgia; Came to Texas,
Location at Ft.Worth 40 Years Ago.

Following an illness of two weeks from pneumonia, J.T.Sheridan, 76 years old, died Sunday afternoon
at 5:30 o'clock.

Mr. Sheridan was born in Georgia Feb. 13, 1852. After spending his boyhood in Mississippi, to which state his parents moved when he was a child, he came to Texas more than forty years ago, locating at Fort Worth. For a time he was engaged at freighting in West Texas before the days of railroads in that section. Later he helped build the first railroad into Fort Worth and in his latter days frequently recalled with much delight the stirring events of that period in Texas.
Mr. Sheridan came to Van Alstyne forty-four years ago and had been engaged in the lumber business for nearly forty years. He was married to Miss Anna Bell Harbough, March 24, 1889.
Mr. Sheridan was a member of the Baptist church for over forty years. He served as a trustee of the Van Alstyne district for several years, and was Precinct Democratic Chairman for eight years, resigning only
a few weeks ago. He was an active member of Lodge No. 216, I.O.O.F., of Van Alstyne for 35 years.

Surviving are his wife, one son, J. T. Sheridan, Jr., of Van Alstyne; and five daughters, Mrs. Theodore Pitchios, Amarillo; Mrs. D.W.Long, Kansas City; Mrs. C.V.Duncah, Chicago; and Mrs. Jack Grafton, Sherman.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. C.O.Hitt, who paid a fitting tribute to life of this good man, declaring that always he was on the right side of every question that arose. A large gathering attended the funeral, including many close friends of the deceased, and the floral offerings were profuse, thus attesting the high esteem in which he was held.
Burial was made in Van Alstyne cemetery, with the local Odd Fellow lodge in charge of the ceremonies.
