Funeral Set for Retired Merchant

Van Alstyne - Funeral services were to be held at 4 p.m. Monday at the First Christian Church here for J.H. Sheid, 74, retired Van Alstyne business man.  The Rev. Lloyd Mottley, Christian pastor, the Rev. Frank Johnston, Baptist pastor, and the Rev. T.G. Craft, Methodist pastor, were to officiate.  Burial in Van Alstyne cemetery was arranged by Fox-Fanning.
Mr. Sheid died at his home here about 2:30 a.m. Sunday following illness of three weeks.  He was born May 21, 1866, in Manchester, Tenn., a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry H. Sheid.  Fifty-six years ago
Mr. Sheid came to Texas, settling in this community where he had lived since.  He had engaged in the grocery business here, for himself and for others, for about 40 years.  He retired from business about
six years ago.  He married Miss Sue Cannon at Van Alstyne February 1896.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. E.R. Logan of Liberty Hill; one son, J. Wallace Sheid of
El Paso; two grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Jesse Rennick of Durant, Okla., and Mrs. Matt Roberts of Orlando, Florida; one brother, Tom Sheid of Denver, Colorado, and a number of nephews and nieces.

Active pallbearers named were Royce Overby, Dr. S.H. Bryan, Carl Umphress, Carlyle Moore, Charlie Hayes and J.G. Kitching.
Honorary pallbearers named were: Dr. S.D. Moore, John Umphress, Walter Barron, Louis Cartwright,
Si McKinney, W.H. Douglas, J.B. Moore, John Neill, Rex Moore, C.E. Brown, Gus Lewallen, Henry Hynds, Walter Judd, Jeff Judd, Allison McDonough, Spencer Taylor, and Sam Huckaby.
