Van Alstyne - Alva (Nank) Phillips, 90 years old, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2009 at his home in
Van Alstyne.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Flesher Funeral Home Chapel in Van Alstyne.  Bro. Doug Bickenbach and Bro. Shannon Jackson will be officiating.

Nank was born in Collin County in the Sedalia Community, October 29, 1918 to Robert (Dee) Phillips and Lola Mae Creswell Phillips.  He was an Air Force Veteran of World War II.  After returning home from the military service, Nank and his family owned and operated Phillips Grocery for thirty five years.
Nank was well known in the Van Alstyne area.  He was a long time businessman and active in the community.
He married Nellie Bell, September 28, 1940, in Sherman, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years; three daughters, Dot Rogers; Lana Briscoe; and Kitty Alexander and husband Tracy; one son, John Phillips and wife Bobbie, all of Van Alstyne; four grandsons, Jimmy Rogers and wife Karen; David Rogers and wife Pam; Jacob Alexander, Joshua Alexander, all of Van Alstyne; one granddaughter, Penny Murley and husband Brent; two great-grandsons, Austin Rogers and Kolton Taylor; two great-granddaughters, Hanna Murley and
Madison Murley, all of Van Alstyne; two brothers, Tony Phillips and wife Pat of Sherman; David Phillips and wife Deryl of Denison; four sisters, Sally Hendricks and husband Joe of Garland, Genita Harden, Lavell Adams; and Billy Biggerstaff all of Van Alstyne.  He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Coy Young.

Pallbearers will be Dude Crook, Danny Turner, Eddie Williams, Johnny Mac Bell, Mike Hynds, and David Schatz.  Honorary pallbearers are Robert Hynds, Harry Hunter, Jim Rogers, and Gary Lewallen.
The family will be at Flesher Funeral Home from 6-8 pm Tuesday evening.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations to be made to Victory Home Health and \Hospice,
