Van Alstyne, Texas -- Harry Deen Hunter passed away at Meadowbrook rest home November 23. He was born June 20, 1922 in Van Alstyne, Texas. His father was Mack Cage Hunter and his mother was Mary Susan (Mitchell) Hunter. He had two sisters, Charlotte Joan Hunter and Rhea Cunningham, and a brother, Mack Quinn Hunter, all of whom preceded him in death.
Harry married Eva Marie Butler of Howe, Texas on March 23, 1942. Eva Marie passed away February 3, 1998. They had two sons, Jerry Mack Hunter and Charles Deen Hunter. Jerry and his wife Cherrie preside in Van Alstyne and Charles and his wife Mary preside in St. Albans, Vermont.
Harry enlisted in the Army Air Force on October 14, 1942 and was discharged December 4, 1945. After attending two aircraft mechanic schools Harry spent his time in the military as a mechanic on B-24 bombers in Boise, Idaho. Harry also worked at Perrin AFB from 1956 until the base closed and finished
up his final stint with Civil Service at Altus AFB as an aircraft mechanic where he retired and then returned to Denison,
Texas.
After Harry's wife Eva passed away he married Billie Stephens of Van Alstyne on February 16th 1999.
Harry is survived by his wife, Billie; two sons; two granddaughters; one grandson; one great grandson; three great-granddaughters; one great-great granddaughter; one great-great grandson; three stepsons; and one step-daughter.
Services for Harry will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Scoggins Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in the Van Alstyne Cemetery. Harry was of the Methodist Faith.
