Gunter - Jerry Wayne Umphress, 48, of Richardson, formerly of Gunter, died Wednesday at his residence.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. today in Metrocrest Funeral Home in Carrollton with the Rev. Carol West officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. today iN Van Alstyne Cemetery with the Rev. T.A. Monk officiating.
Mrs. Umphress was born in Gunter, the son of Luther Chalmer Umphress and Eulah Mae Lewis Umphress.  He was a 1962 graduate of Gunter High School and attended Grayson County College and the University of Texas at Arlington.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Vietnam War.  He was formerly employed as a supervisor for G. S. Thompson (Mostek).
Surviving are his sister, Louise Vaughan of Gunter; and brothers, Don Umphress of McKinney and L.C. Umphress of Van Alstyne.

Luther Charles Umphress, Jr., 75, of Van Alstyne, TX passed away November 23, 2009 in Sherman, TX. He was born on August 4, 1934 in Gunter, TX to Luther C. and Mae (Lewis) Umphress, Sr. He married Sue Brown on September 25, 1954 in McKinney, TX and worked as a builder for 35 years. Luther was a member of Elmont Baptist Church in Van Alstyne for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Umphress of Van Alstyne, TX; daughters, Pamela Anglin of Paris, TX, Vicki Kight and husband, David of Sherman, TX and Kristy Hibdon of Van Alstyne, TX; brother, Don Umphress and wife, Carol of Whitewright, TX; sister, Louise Vaughn of Gunter, TX; grandchildren, Kyle Kight and wife, Katie of Denison, TX, Charlie Anglin of Allen, TX, Morgan Kight of Pottsboro, TX, Logan Anglin of Paris, TX, Brittany Hibdon of Van Alstyne, TX, Jordan Kight of Sherman, TX, Lane Umphress of Van Alstyne, TX; great-grandson, Kash Kight of Denison, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, James and Jerry Umphress and one grandson, Cody Glover.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, November 27, 2009 at Flesher Funeral Home Chapel in Van Alstyne with Rev. Jim Poole, Pastoral Care Chaplain for Medical City of Dallas, officiating. Interment will follow at Van Alstyne Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Flesher Funeral Home.
