Miss MARY GREENE, 89, RETIRED TEACHER, DIES

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Van Alstyne for Miss Mary Willie Greene, 89, of 1405 S. Crockett, who died Sunday morning in a Sherman hospital.  She had taught school in both Van Alstyne and Sherman.
Dr. J. Daniel Barron, pastor of the First Methodist Church, will conduct the services.  Burial will be directed by Dannel Funeral Home.
The family will be at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Higginbotham, 1126 S. Crockett, a niece of Miss Greene, Monday night.
Miss Greene, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Greene, was born Aug. 23, 1876, in Hackneyville, Ala., and came to Texas at an early age.  She received bachelor and master of arts degrees from Austin College, and did graduate work at the University of Colorado.
After teaching in Van Alstyne, she came to Sherman in 1904 to teach in the elementary schools.  In 1921, she became the first principal of the Bryant School.  She retired from that position in 1942.  She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, honorary teachers society, and the First Methodist Church.
Survivors are a brother, Ernest S. Greene and a nephew, Dr. Vernon Tuck, both of Sherman; and two other nieces, Mrs. Kenneth Forst Jr. of Dallas and Mrs. William J. Smith of Pampa.

FORMER TEACHER LAID TO REST HERE TUESDAY
Graveside services were held Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock in the Van Alstyne Cemetery for Mrs. Mary Willie Greene, 89, of Sherman who died Sunday morning in a Sherman hospital.  Mrs. Greene taught in the Van Alstyne Public Schools, going to Sherman to teach in the elementary schools.  In 1921 she became the first principal of the Bryant School.  She retired in 1942.
