ALSTYNE, Nov. 3 - Mrs. Louis Garver, 66 year old, died at 3:15 p.m.
Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. C. Judd in the Lincoln
Park community, northeast of Van Alstyne, following an illness of several months. She was a native of Collin county, having been born at Old Mantua, one and one-half miles southeast of Van Alstyne, but had made her home at Van Alstyne for a number of years. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. M. McKinney, were pioneers of this section, descended from Collin McKinney, prominent during the early days of Texas. Mrs. Garver was active in church and social work, was one of the leaders among the member of the Culture Club of Van Alstyne and of the local chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was an officer in the memorial association with a membership composed of the descendants of Collin McKinney. Her husband, the late Louis Garver, was at one time mayor of Van Alstyne and was prominent in business circles of this section. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday from the residence of W. C. Judd, conducted by the pastor, The Rev. E. D. Henson, followed by burial at the Van Alstyne cemetery. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. W. C. Judd of Van Alstyne, Mrs. A. S. Trube of Dallas, Mrs. Dalton Scales of Dallas and Miss Lois Garver, Alvord, and one son, Roscoe K. Garver, postmaster of Van Alstyne. Mrs. Louis Garver The entire community was saddened yesterday afternoon by the death of Mrs. Louis Garver at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.C. Judd. Mrs. Garver was one of Van Alstyne's oldest and most highly respected citizens. She was born one mile south of here October 22, 1861, and was 66 years, eleven days of age at the time of her death. She was a member of the Christian church, and for many years was prominent in church and social activities. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.M. McKinney, one of Grayson county's earliest families and was the widow of Louis Garver, who died several years ago. Funeral services will be held at the residence of W.C. Judd here this afternoon at 3:00 o'clock, the Rev. E.D. Henson officiating. Immediately following the funeral services burial will be made in the Van Alstyne cemetery. Mrs. Garver is survived by four daughters, Mrs. W.C. Judd, Van Alstyne; Mrs. Dalton Scales and Mrs. A.S. Trube, of Dallas; and Miss Lois Garver of Alvord.
