James Ellis Cowan Rites Held at Tioga

Tioga , Texas July 10 - Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Tioga Methodist Church for James Ellis Cowan, 77, who died Sunday at his home here. He had been ill three months. Burial was in the Tioga Cemetery.
Cowan was a native of Scottsboro, Ala., and came to Texas in 1896. He settled at Honey Grove, later moved to Gunter and came to Tioga in 1931. He was a Methodist. 
He is survived by his wife, four sons, F.W. Cowan of Fort Worth; Raymond Cowan of Tioga, Joe L. Cowan of Dallas and Malcolm Cowan of Fayetteville, North Carolina; three daughters, Mrs. Rex Arnold of Clebrune, Miss Bessie Cowan of Tioga and Miss Helen Cowan of Dallas; two brothers, W.C. Cowan of Whitesboro and J.C. Cowan of Dutton, Alabama and seven grandchildren.

Ft Worth - Bessie Cowan, 98, of Fort Worth, formerly of Tioga, died Monday, May 1, 2000 in Fort Worth.  Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 4, at Tioga Cemetery, Tiogal.  Huff/Slay Funeral Home of Pilot Point is in charge of arrangements.
She was born September 24, 1901, in Honey Grove to James Ellis and Mary Emma (Thompson) Cowan.
Ms. Cowan was a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service and taught school at the Tioga Independend School District for many years.  She was a member of Tioga Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Beatrice Cowan and Edythe Cowan of Fort Worth, and eight nieces and nephews.
