John M. Althoff

John M. Althoff, 69, who was a captain of the Sherman Fire Department 32 years, died at home in El Paso (Texas) Monday after a three year illness.
A native of Sherman, Mr. Althoff had lived here his entire life until he moved to El Paso in 1947. He was the son of the late George and Margaret McCormick Althoff. He married Miss Regina Twomey of Denison (Texas).
After his retirement from the local fire department, he served as chief of the Perrin Air Force Base Fire Department,
1941 - 1947.
A requiem mass will be held in St. Mary's Catholic Church at 9.am. Thursday. A Rosary service will be held at John C. Dannel Funeral Home at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Mnsgr. Edward McCullough, pastor, will be celebrant.
Pallbearers will be J.W. Graves, J.F. Wolf, Joseph O'Hagan, Hugo Adlof, E.H. Kleiner and A.A. Rolfe. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, W.H. Althoff of Chattanooga, Tennessee, George and John M. Althoff of El Paso, and a sister, Mrs. George James of California.
