Janis Alexander Hicks was born June 14, 1937 in Dallas, Texas, daughter of Raymond and Lois Alexander.  She graduated in the class of '56 from Ursuline Academy. She most recently worked as the Business Manager at Holy Family Catholic Church in Van Alstyne, Texas.  She was a loving, faithful servant of God, devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  She was happiest when surrounded by her family.
She never passed up an opportunity to help others.  She was an avid sports fan with an affinity for the Texas Rangers and Dallas Mavericks.
Janis is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Leighton Hicks, of Van Alstyne; her cherished children: Renee and husband, Russell; Michael and wife, Carolyn; Margaret and Delanna; Jeffrey and wife, Kirsten, Mary Jayne and husband, Tom; Jeanne Anne and husband, Stephen; Eric and wife, Stacy.  She was the adored grandmother to Heather, Brittany, Patrick, Haleigh, Chance, Taylor, Courtney, Presley, Ally and Jonah.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother.
Janis lived her life in a way t hat wholly reflected God's boundless love and grace. She will be deeply missed by her community, her friends and her family but her spirit lives on in all of those whose lives were enriched by her presence.
Rosary was held Friday evening, June 29, 2018 at Scoggins Funeral Home and Crematory in Van Alstyne, Texas.  A funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday afternoon, June 30, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Van Alstyne, Texas. Interment was at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Sherman, Texas.


Leighton Earl Hicks was born November 20, 1931 in Nolanville, Texas, son of Edwin Earl and Beatrice Hicks.  He graduated in the class of '51 from Cozier Tech.  He worked at Texas Instruments as an engineer for 40 years.
He was a loving, faithful servant of God, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He was happiest when surrounded by his family.  He was an avid sports fan with an affinity for the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and Dallas Mavericks.
He is survived by his cherished children: Renee and husband, Russell; Michael and wife, Carolyn; Margaret and DaLanna; Jeffrey and wife, Kirsten; Mary Jayne and husband, Tom; Jeanne Anne and husband, Stephen; Eric and wife, Stacy.  He was the adored grandfather to Heather, Brittany, Patrick, Haleigh, Chance, Taylor, Courtney, Presley, Ally and Jonah.  He was the beloved great-grandfather to Grayson and Rylee. He was the treasured older brother to sisters, Evelyn, Barbara and Judy.
He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Janis; and his parents.
Leighton lived his life in a way that wholly reflected God's boundless love and grace.  He will be deeply missed by his community, friends and family, but his spirit lives on in all those whose lives were enriched by his presence.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday morning, June 17, 2023, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Van Alstyne, Texas.
Interment followed at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Sherman, Texas.  Rosary was held Friday evening, June 16, 2023 at Scoggins Funeral Home and Crematory in Van Alstyne, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Building Fund at Holy Family Catholic Church, Van Alstyne, Texas
