  Rufus J. Matthews 1859 - 1957  Dallas Morning News 21 May 1957 pg13 Rufus J. Matthews, 97, a resident of Dallas for the last 22 years, died Monday in a Dallas hospital after a short illness. Matthews, who lived at 11203 Shady Trail, was born in Pikeville, Ala. He moved to Texas about 1892, settling firest in Bosque County. Before retiring, he had farmed in Waxahachie several years prior to moving to Dallas. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. John N. Clark of Dallas and Mrs. Margie Word of Fort Worth; a son, Howard Q. Matthews; eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 am Wednesday in the Guardian Funeral Chapel, 2811 Oak Lawn, by Foy Smith of the Walnut Hill Church of Christ.
