Idabel, Oklahoma - B. J. Waldrop, 78, was born on December 31, 1931 in Pottsboro to Perry Justin Waldrop and Cloteel Anderson Waldrop. B.J. Waldrop was raised in Sherman, where he graduated from Sherman High School. He began his college education at Decatur Baptist College, which was interrupted during the early 1950s to serve four years as a medic in the U.S. Navy. He returned to college and received his pre-medical education at University of Texas in Austin and Austin College in Sherman. He later completed a bachelor of science at Southeast University and taught chemistry, physics and mathematics while completing a master's degree from East Texas State University.
Dr. Waldrop received a National American Osteopathic Association Scholarship and attended medical school at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in Kansas City, Missouri. While in medical school Dr. Waldrop was elected to the honorary Rho Sigma Chi Fraternity for scholastic excellence, elected president of his senior class and was the recipient of the Outstanding Senior Award from Wyeth Pharmaceutical Corporation. Following graduation Dr. Waldrop interned at Dallas Osteopathic Hospital. He practiced briefly in Denison prior to moving to Idabel, Oklahoma in November 1967. While associated with the medical staff at McCurtain Memorial Hospital, Dr. Waldrop served as Chief-of-Staff and as a member of the hospital board for 12 years. He served as Examiner for the Federal Aviation Administration and Associate Medical Examiner for McCurtain County. Dr. Waldrop also served on the admissions committee for the Physician's Assistance Program of the University of Oklahoma, as physician advisor to the Kiamichi Vocational Nursing Program and a board member of the Carl Albert Higher Learning Center. He was also a founding member of Memorial Heights Nursing Home and McCurtain County National Bank. He passed from this life on November 25, 2010 at his home in Idabel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kata Waldrop in 1958; his brother, Ernest Waldrop; and his sister, June Bedford.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory; his college sweetheart and wife of 56 years, Bonnie Waldrop of Idabel, Oklahoma;
Dr. Bill and Kim Herron, Idabel, Oklahoma; Mark and Rosa Waldrop, Rowlett; grandchildren, Justin and Emily Herron, Idabel, Oklahoma; Jason and Brianne Herron of Springdale, Arkansas; Dr. Bryan and Lindsey Mabry of Tallahassee, Florida; great-grandchildren; Eli Mabry, Noah Mabry, Jonah Mabry, Tallahassee, Florida; Ella Herron, Idabel, Oklahoma; and Holland Herron, Springdale, Arkansas.

Services were 10 a.m., Monday, November 29 at the First United Methodist Church, Idabel, Oklahoma.  Entombment  follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Bells.
