FUNERAL TODAY FOR DR. J.L. BOW
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church for Dr. James L. Bow, who died at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday.  The services were conducted by Rev. E.P. Wootten, pastor, and Rev. W.J. Epting of Celina, former pastor.  Active pallbearers were W.E. LaRoe, C.B. Bryant, Jr., Gomer May, A.M. Bryant, all of Whitewright, and Dr. C.S. Carter of Bells and Dr. D.C. Enloe of Sherman.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Wylie Morrow of Greenville; Dr. J.B. Birt of Harper; Dr. H.V. Reeves of El Campo; Dr. Chas. Donaghey of Trenton; Dr. F.B. Stafford of Leonard; and all members of the Grayson County Medical Association.
The body lay in state at the church one hour preceding the funeral service.  Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery at Bells.
Dr. Bow was born September 24, 1866 at Burksville, Kentucky, a son of A.W. and Martha Guthrie Bow.  He came with his parents to Texas in 1890 and they settled on a farm near Bells.  He was married at Bells in 1896 to Miss Anna Pech Sloan.
Dr. Bow received his M.D. degree from the Louisville Medical College of Louisville, Kentucky, and began the practice of medicine in Bells in 1893.  He moved to Whitewright in 1913 and practiced there a little over a year ago.  He was engaged in the active practice of medicine for 48 years.  It is said of him that he never refused to answer a call, no matter how bad the weather, and that he never said no to those unable to pay.  His life was rich in golden deeds the blessed mankind.  He was kind hearted and sympathetic and was a beloved physician to his hundreds of patients.
The experiences of Dr. Bow portray the country doctor of a few years ago who carried his drug store with him in a pair of "pill pockets," and traveled by horse in all kinds of weather, roads or no roads, and treated everything.  He practiced medicine 20 years or more before the automobile came into general use, and at one time kept four saddle horses to make calls on at all times.
Dr, Bow had been a member of the Baptist Church for 52 years.  He was a Royal Arch Mason, a member of the Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias.  He had been local physician for the M-K-T and Cotton Belt railroads.
Survivors are Mrs. Bow; one daughter, Mrs. Jack Nossaman; and 4 brothers, O.G. Bow, south of Whitewright; R.A. Bow, Alpine; Steve and Gaines Bow, Caldwell, Idaho; and 2 grandchildren.

MRS. ANNA BOW RITES MONDAY
Whitewright (spl) - Funeral services were held here on Thursday afternoon for Mrs. Anna Peck [sic] Sloan Bow, widow of Dr. J.L. Bow.  Rev. Weldon R. Drake, pastor, officiated, assisted by Rev. Robert L. Gilpin, Methodist minister.
Mrs. Bow was born August 27, 1880 in Missouri and came to Texas as a child.  She resided at Bells until 1911 when she and Dr. Bow moved to Whitewright.  They had married in 1898.  She was a member of the Baptist church.
Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Jack Nossaman and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Joe Lee, Bonham; Judge David H. Brown, Sherman; Gomer W. May, W.E. LaRoe. B.W. Newman, Paul Stephens, C.B. Bryant, III, and Thomas E. Sears.
