DEATH BY HER OWN HAND

MRS ETHEL BRUNER FOUND HANGING TO A RAFTER
Body Discovered by Husband When He Returned from Field - Home Is Near Preston Bend

POTTSBORO, Tex, June 15 - Mrs. Ethel Bruner [sic], aged about 19 years and a bride of only seven months, was found hanging from a rafter in her home yesterday by her husband, George Bruner. An inquest was held yesterday afternoon by Justice McAden of Pottsboro, who returned a verdict that the woman met death by her own hand. The Bruners resided on the Jackson farm near Preston Bend.
Yesterday morning when Mr. Bruner left for work in the fields his wife seemed in good health and in a normal frame of mind. About 10 o'clock he returned to the house to obtain some money to pay off a hired hand and when he entered he was met with a ghastly spectacle of his wife hanging dead from the rafters with a large cat sitting on her shoulder. Mr. Bruner at once cut down the body, but life was then extinct.
The woman made a rope by tearing a sheet into strips. She then tied the improvised rope to the rafter and about her own neck, stood up on a chair and kicked the chair away.
Mrs. Bruner left a note to her husband in which she said she was afraid she was losing her health and mind and did not want to be a burden to him. The note was dated June 21, 1906, which is the only irrational thing that can be credited to her.
The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at Preston Bend and interment was made in Helvey cemetery.
