Jessie Mae Monroe, 78, died April 5, 2009, at home with the love of her life, Weldon, at her side. Our beloved Jessie went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ after a courageous battle with cancer.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at Johnson-Moore Funeral Home in Denison.
Her family invites all her friends to join them in a celebration of her life 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at a graveside services to be held at Preston Bend Cemetery with Reverend John Frank Arnold officiating.
Jessie was the first born of identical twins by twenty minutes, arriving April 27, 1930 in Sulphur Springs, Texas, to the late Calvin A. Stovall and Nancy Procter Stovall. She moved to Denison with her family in 1940, graduated from Colbert High School in 1948 and married Weldon C. Monroe on September 11, 1948.
She worked for Sherwin-Williams for eight years before starting to work at the Denison Herald. She retired as office manager of the Denison Herald after 26 years at the age of 62.
Jessie was a member of Hebron Baptist Church, Savoy, Texas. She was a wonderful woman who enjoyed life to its fullest, no matter what came her way. Throughout her long and courageous battle with cancer, she always kept a positive attitude, making every effort to enjoy each day. She and Weldon spent many hours tending their garden together and shared a love for music. In her later years, she learned to play the violin and mandolin, and they spent many evening with friends attending gospel music events.
A strong Christian, she had no fear of dying. In her words, she was lucky to have lived a long, interesting and happy life, surrounded always by friends and family. Those who knew her well will remember her sweet smile and laugh. Her energetic spirit will be missed by family, friends and everyone who knew her.
Jessie is survived by her husband of 60 years, Weldon C. Monroe, her son, Steven Arthur Monroe and wife Carolyn of Alberta Creek, Ok; her twin sister, Bessie Dalton of Denison, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren along with a host of nieces and nephews. Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, David, Curtis, Jim, Gene and Kenneth, and son, Ronald Dale Monroe.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the Hebron Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O.Box 176 Bells, TX 75414.
Words cannot express our heartfelt thanks for the prayer, cards, food and comfort we received from all our loving neighbors and friends during the long battle of her illness. The family also wished to express their thanks to American Home Hospice for their superb professional care and sensitive assistance.
