Services set for Retired Rev. Young
Services for the Rev. William Tate Young, rector of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church for 22 years, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in St. Luke's Episcopal Church of Denison. Rev. Young died Friday in a Sherman hospital following a brief illness.
The Rt. Rev. A. Donald Davies, bishop of Dallas, will be celebrant, assisted by the Rev. William Forrest of St. Luke's Church in Sherman. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery conducted by Dannel and Horton Funeral Home.
Born Nov. 10, 1900 in Corinth, Miss, he was the son of William Tate and Bertha Adams Young. He was a graduate of Virginia Military Institute and the University of the South. He was married to Elliott Wilson. Ordained in 1927, he held his first proctorship at Rosedale, Miss.
He was an Army Air Force chaplain during World War II. Coming to Sherman from Wichita Falls in 1946, he became rector of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and retired from there in 1968. Following his retirement he made his home at Texoma Estates near Pottsboro.
He is survived by his wife of Rt. 1, Pottsboro; a daughter, Ann Cable Young Todd of Houston, and by two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be from the Vestry of St. Luke's Church.
If desired, memorials may be made to St. Stephen’s Church in Sherman. The family will be at the funeral home from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday.
