Lorene Grissom
17 November 1923 - 14 July 2016

Van Alstyne, Texas -- Nora Lorene Todd Grissom went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 14, 2016. A celebration of her life will be held Monday, July 18, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne, Texas with Bro. Bobby Layman, officiating. The family will receive visitors Sunday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Lorene was born November 17, 1923 in Gunter, Texas to James Arthur and Lillian Taylor Todd.  She graduated from Gunter High School in 1941.  She married John Rolan Grissom on December 21, 1941 in Van Alstyne.  Lorene spent many years living in Dallas where she was  a member of Town North Bible Church. She loved the Lord and was an avid Bible scholar. Her hobbies included crafts, sewing, and woodworking. She enjoyed making rugs for her home. But most of all, she enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends. She had the gift of charity and on several occasions invited people who had fallen on hard times to come and stay in her home until they could get back on their feet.

We will dearly miss her laughter, her cooking, especially the banana puddings, banana cream pies, Red Velvet cakes, and her love and encouragement. She had a servant’s heart and dearly loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

In 2014 she moved to Brookdale Stonebridge Assisted Living and Memory Care to be closer to family. Our family wishes to extend our sincere appreciation and thanksgiving to all of the staff at Brookdale for your compassion, your service, your dedication, and for your willingness to go above and beyond when called upon. You truly are a part of our extended family.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father and husband John R.  Those left to cherish her memory are sisters Jimmie Garner of Gunter, Jessie Lou Burke of Sherman, Wanda Bartlett of Dorchester, Doris Layman and husband Bob of Greenville, sons Gary Grissom and wife Gaye of McKinney and Bruce Grissom and wife Cindy of Dallas, grandsons Shannon Grissom and wife Cheryl of McKinney, Kevin Grissom and wife Lindsey of Richardson, great-grandchildren Austin Grissom and wife Kayla of Amarillo, Casey Grissom Scott and husband Cody of McKinney, Hunter Grissom, Chase Grissom,  and Samantha Reynaud, and  great great-grandchildren Cohen Grissom of Amarillo and Eli Grissom of McKinney, and numerous nieces and nephews.
